SUV vs. Sedan – Which Is Better?

262

Both SUVs and sedans have become extremely popular with car buyers in the country. You probably already prefer one type of car over the other, but the best fit for your requirements may be something different. Here’s how the two types of motor vehicles compare.

Popularity: Both SUVs and sedans are popular vehicles. Sedans have been popular for a long time, given the fact that they are what people associate with the word “car,” but SUVs have become extremely popular off late as well. Since fuel prices have been low for a few years now, more and more car buyers are actually opting for SUVs in comparison to other smaller vehicles.

Advantages of SUVs

– Space: SUVs are a lot more spacious than sedans. If you need a spacious vehicle, whether that’s to fit extra cargo or travel with your large family and pets, an SUV will make a great choice.

– Capability: SUVs tend to be a lot more capable in comparison to smaller cars like sedans. Most SUVs are equipped with all-wheel drive, while even the newest sedans don’t always offer this feature. If you spend a lot of time driving through hazardous road conditions and inclement weather, an SUV may be the better choice.

– Visibility: When you are driving an SUV, you enjoy an elevated driving position that gives you better visibility.

Advantages of Sedans

– Safety: Sedans are the safer option in comparison to SUVs. Some SUVs are, however, getting safety features that were in the past restricted to sedans, but sedans still do have the advantage of closed trunks.

– Fuel economy: While low fuel prices may have made SUVs more popular, sedans are still the more fuel-efficient choice. If you drive long distances, this is something that you should consider. Even powerful sedans with V-6 engines are more fuel-efficient than SUVs with the same engines, simply because they are lighter.

– Affordability: Sedans are the more affordable choice. For budget shoppers, buying a sedan will help save money. Even if money isn’t a priority, you can still opt for a sedan with a higher trim level or get a sporty sedan for the price you would have paid for a budget SUV.
